Wanted to be an astrophysicist, and in a misguided bid to be a productive member of society, decided to become an English major.

Queer writer, translator, literary reviewer/editor, freelancer. Blogging for Ploughshares, working for Winter Tangerine and tweeting. Grad student in American Studies, with an abiding interest in literature, arts, and social sciences.

Afferez is a pseudonym, gleaned from old family names. The blog title “breve sóis e sono,” meaning brief suns and sleep, is lifted from a poem by Ricardo Reis.
